Hi, I’m Brandon — the maker, designer, problem-solver, occasional filament hoarder, and person behind Layers Maker Supply.

Based in Iowa, Layers was built around a pretty simple idea: making things is awesome.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about taking an idea that exists only in your head and turning it into something you can actually hold. Sometimes that means 3D printing a product. Sometimes it means UV printing a photograph, engraving something with a laser, or spending entirely too much time adjusting a design by a fraction of a millimeter because it’s almost perfect.

Around here, that counts as a perfectly normal day.

More Than a Maker Supply Store

Layers Maker Supply is part maker shop, part product studio, and part supply store.

We stock filament and maker supplies for fellow creators, offer 3D printing, UV printing, and laser engraving, and develop original products of our own.

The goal is simple: help people make cool stuff — and make some pretty cool stuff ourselves.

Some of our products begin with a big idea.

Others begin with someone saying, “You know what would be really helpful...?”

Those are usually the fun ones.

From a Simple Problem to Tab Pals™

Tab Pals™ started with an everyday problem: opening a can shouldn’t be difficult.

What began as a small 3D-printed tool designed to help lift stubborn beverage tabs grew into an entire line of colorful, customizable Tab Pals.

They’re small, simple, useful — and a perfect example of the kind of products we love creating.

Solve a problem. Make it better. Add a little personality.

Introducing the DollRest™ System

Then there are ideas that grow into something much bigger.

DollRest™ began after learning about a challenge faced by artists working with silicone and reborn dolls: safely supporting delicate doll parts while painting and creating.

Existing solutions worked, but there was room to create something more versatile.

So we started designing.

And redesigning.

And printing.

And testing.

And redesigning some more — because apparently telling a maker “good enough” is a fantastic way to get another prototype.

The result is the DollRest™ System, a modular support system designed specifically with doll artists in mind.

Rather than creating one fixed stand, DollRest™ was developed as a system of interchangeable components. Stability Bases provide the foundation, stackable Extension Risers allow the working height to be customized, and interchangeable Soft Support Cradles provide different ways to safely support pieces while an artist works.

The system can grow and change with the artist instead of forcing the artist to work around the stand.

We’ve even developed an adjustable head support, expanding DollRest™ beyond individual limbs and components into an increasingly versatile workstation for doll artists.

Every component has gone through the same process we use throughout Layers: design it, make it, test it, improve it, and repeat until we're proud to put our name on it.

DollRest™ represents exactly what we want Layers Maker Supply to be — not simply a place that sells things, but a place where real problems become thoughtfully designed products.

Full-color printing allows us to create everything from personalized gifts and photo products to signage and branded merchandise on a huge variety of surfaces.

Laser Engraving

Permanent, precise engraving and cutting for wood, acrylic, coated metals, gifts, signage, business products, and more.

And if you have an idea but aren't quite sure how to make it yet, that's okay too. Figuring that part out is half the fun.

Why “Layers”?

Because almost nothing worthwhile happens all at once.

A 3D print is built one layer at a time. So is a product. So is a business.

You start with an idea. Add a little knowledge. Make a few mistakes. Learn something. Improve it. Then add another layer.

Eventually, you look down and realize you've made something that didn't exist before.
